German cross in gold, 1941

Can I ask your thoughts on this award please?
I want to buy it, and need to know if it`s original.

Description from seller:
German Cross in “Gold”
By maker “20”, light version (43.7 grams), 4 hollow rivets, in mint condition, and with original cellophane paper as originally wrapped. In case of issue (case good very fine).

Well ... what more can be said. As everyone knows this "Zimmerman" has been discussed to death. 50% say Yay, 50% say Nay.

As per Dietrich's Book on DK's it's infamously labelled at the "Dotted Date" Cross.

Do a Search and be prepared to read for several hours. At the end of the day, and at the end of this thread ... bottom line ... no one will know (yet).



BTW ... not wanting to be nosey or anything ... but if you plan on buying every medal you've been posting during the last while ... you are either a Billionaire or Donald Trumps Son.

Also ... a bit of advice ... I'd try doing a little homework yourself on Authenticating the badges and medals you are asking advice for. Soon people will tire and ignore your inquiries.

My intention was not to naggle you, I swear ! Since my deal for the Knights Cross with Oakleaves and Swords, now is canceled...I just wanted to make another deal with a seller on 9 different awards. It was ok for the seller, to use the Forum. Also several members here told me to always put everything I was going to buy up for discussion here (please read the tread regarding the KC ) I have posted a tread for 8 of these 9 awards, and had only one left to go.

I am trying to do my homework, and think I have learned a lot the last few months. I startet my collection in February last year, and still feel I have a long way to go before I can stand safely on my own two feet.

as to the discussion on these; how much I would like to get my hands on one of these and pull it apart to get some proof on wheather it is real or not... Personally I do like this "dotted" version as it is most probably just a manufacture variation. It does not make sense to me that the makers did all things (as far as I can see on these pictures) correctly and not the relatively easy 1941 detail.

I had several in hand and there is absolutely nothing - apart from the different wreath - to indicate that it not genuine pre May 1945. Some people swear they got them from veterans, others say they never than then up until the early 1970 in Germany.
It is not proven either way and that is all that can be said today. I know that Niemann considers them good and will give you an expertise with buy back warranty to that effect. What more can one ask?

I know that I will be blasted again just for telling both sides of the story as it stands and not taking sides. I still think it is better to say what is known instead of maybe making something up.

Sorry to offend anyone, but grow a thick skin. We've seen some real snakes in this hobby trying to pawn OFF stuff rather than being serious about buying. You get suspicious whenever someone "relatively new" posts a ton of questions over a short period of time. Some items are border line and are difficult to judge, but most he has posted are textbook items that can be determined as original without too much work on their behalf.

Obviously (by the others vouching for him) this man is who he says and good for him he has the means to buy.

So, in that case, why would "fakers" go to all the trouble of making a different style date when it would be so "easy" (you said it not me) to replicate the date? AS Dietrich said in his book. It would be very difficult to do this modification on a die.

Why speculate. It's been speculated to death. Until that proof comes along, buy this one and rip it apart. Find that Golden Goose. Let us know what you see
