I was wondering if the 1st class war merit cross was ever produced with needle type pins? All the original ones I have seen so far have had the broad flat type pin. Appreciate comments.

In about 15 years of collection, I have never sen a KVK1 with a needle pin. All good ones (and many fakes also) have the coke bottle pin.
I would consider that a needle pin is not an authentic item.
Just my 02 eurocents worth

Just to add, the pin does not have to be coke-bottle shaped, some are straight and slightly tapered, such as those made by Deumer. However, I've never seen one with a needle pin. Here's an example...

There is a needle pin variety pictured in Formans but I don't like it at all. The hook looks like something from an American award.
I've also seen some on respected dealers sites but am afraid to touch them.
