Assuming the DK was made in the TR period is there any way an opinion can be given to suggest in which year this particular DK was made?

the only thing that I can say to this is that it is a Type 1 down to every detail (except the wreath ...) and that regarding my observations (cloth versions on uniforms and such) the Type 1 was the earlier one. What "early" and "late" means with cloth versions I don't know (yet).

Yes, that is true. There are some very early ones without the flaw! Did not think of the model for the casting!

Try pushing a pin through the back of the cross and into the back of the wreath. It won't hurt the piece, and by doing so you might be able to determine whether the wreath his hollow (stamped out) or solid (something else).

Mate, I must say I haven't found your tone nor attitude toward the discourse here particularly sophisticated...in fact, I would have said it touches on the arrogant and boorish sides. Perhaps it's best to leave our 'wigs and gowns' elsewhere when we undertake to interact here old son...This way we can all enjoy the Forum as equally interested hobbyists. I think you may also find that there are quite a few members of the legal fraternity on the WAF. I must say that for myself I find th opinion offered on the WAF (it must be remembered on the principle of free speech, this is a public forum and not a court of law) on balance extremely well based and provided with equanimity. I mean this to be taken with great sympathy (used in the strictest sense). I do wish you well, and admire the passion behind your position...However, temperance...a seasoned advocate surely understands this...

Why is it that if a member disagrees with the "experts" and asserts real evidence and facts to show that they just may be wrong(!), that shows the member is "arrogant and boorish"? The so called experts with their thousands of posts, expect that those who disagree, have to approach them "hat in hand" and defer to their greater knowledge.
This is not a "court of law", but when Don informs us from the Olympian heights that Dietrich Maerz's opinion would not be acceptable in court, that is a target that I as a lawyer cannot ignore.
There is no particular "passion" behind my postings, just facts and evidence, which are usually never responded to except with opinions that I am up setting the apple cart and shame on me. As I have said the level of intellectual dishonesty never ceases to amaze me.

Hey gents. There has been some very interesting and good discussion in this thread and then there has been some name calling and pointless posts that are irrelevant to ANYTHING here on WAF, let alone the subject at hand.

This item seems to be an anomaly. A few opinions are for it, some against it. Ultimately, as I believe Dietrich said, no one will ever know FOR SURE how this piece came to be. It is as simple as that. Unless one of us randomly meets Dr. Emmit "Doc" Brown and he takes us back to World War II in his time machine

I know i'm not a moderator around here, but can we stay on topic with constructive opinions, ideas and suggestions, rather than one upping each other? We are all adults here, this forum flaming is something 13 year old kids do on their video game forums!

I have found this topic very interesting and I certainly am not saying people shouldn't voice and support their opinions, but lets keep the personal attacks down and either try to figure this out further to help the owner and community, or drop the subject and agree to disagree. Either way, no one, either "side" should be acting rude. Lets get it together gentlemen.
