Cross hatching on the outside corners does definitely NOT mean that the cross is not original.

I have seen this feature before on Juncker Knight Crosses. If anyone is interested I can post another example of a lazy 2 with this feature.

One must not forget that the outside rim corners on a KC are the first parts to show some actual signs of wear. That's the reason why on most crosses the outside rim corners are very smooth.

Brian’s cross however was never worn by the original recipient. It was awarded posthumous and is therefore a mint example of a L/12 Juncker.

Pascal - thanks for the great photos. It appears that Gordon's site has been stripped of all the RK info he used to have. No reason he should have his own web site compete with sales of his book.

Just to clarify, the missing page on the defunct website was taken down to be reworked, and just never reloaded when I decided to concentrate on the new site. It showed detail shots of a genuine Juncker RK and comparison shots of four types of postwar fake including a Souval and the type of recent fake that Andy posted here.
It did show a detail shot of the incorrect # effect on the outer corners of the fake type , stating that although similar, it was not the same as the # effect on a genuine Juncker piece.

                    Gordon-

Could you please clarify your information on the bottom of page 468 of your book regarding the cross hatching at the outer corners? I took this to mean that the presence of the cross hatching on the outer corners was indicative of a fake, not an original. By the way, love your book- I have un upstairs and downstairs copy.

Tom, look at the photo on page 471 of Gordon's book.

A picture is worth a thousand words

All the corners clearly are waffled on the fake example.

Again, a few words of caution should substitute for an entire analysis of the cross. Looking at the numerals on this example and as Gordon says the curvature of the arms, ALL these features add to a fake RK.

I think Gordon means that the cross-hatching at the outer corners of that particular repro RK is one of the characteristics of it as a fake -- not that any cross-hatching at the outer corners of any RK means that any such cross is fake.

Right, my misconception arose from taking it to mean that ONLY fakes had the crosshatching on the outside corners. Perhaps it's time I invested in your book, Gordon?
