    Is the RK case original?

What criteria do you use to determine the originality of a Knight's Cross case?
This is an area that is seldomly discussed and although I have my parameters and will show several pictures (in detail) I'd love to start a dialog of what other collectors look for!
Ofcourse, if you have pics to show that would be ideal!

Well Dave doesn’t look like anyone has replied to this thread, which I find surprising considering the number of advanced collectors here, I don’t want to see this subject die in the ground, hopefully you can share what information you have with us.
The only “pointers” I know of for determining originality of cases is the black light test and amusements. I own many original cased EK’s which pass the blacklight test. I am not like some of the collectors here who “butcher” their cases by ripping the lining out of the base to check if animal glue is there or if there are any numbers scribbled inside. Sometimes by peeping very closely between the crack you can make out the numbers however I would never dream of ripping and destroying the case to check for originality.

Do you have some more information to share with us Dave/JohnJ?

This is indeed intersting, on the site Andy wrote an article about the RK and it has a section about the cases. That's a start.

Excellent question, I look forward to some of the opinions that will be posted by advanced collectors on this subject.... . Obviously we all reference Sebastian's section on cases / mfg details

I searched the archives and there are only several threads, of which this one was the most interesting:

I think more disscussion would be of benefit to all?

        cheers

          Ok, let's start!

Beyond the weight and measurements which can vary from maker to maker the one underlying theme I look for is QUALITY in the manufacture and attention to detail!

                          hI,

about all cases, not only for RK's, you must have knowledges of every part of the case, silk, cartoon, paper, hinge, glue, ecc.....

look for example this case of mine, WHAT DO GUYS THINK ABOUT IT? ........
