    Thanks from the Unmarked KC

    Hi everyone,

Thank you to everyone on this forum who assisted with solving the mystery of this intriguing medal (if interested check posting titled Unmarked Knight's Cross now somewhere on the back pages) which has been relatively undisturbed for 64 or so years.

It has been a wild week for the unmarked Knight's Cross found in Lt. Rittner's possession after his death. For the moment the KC, panzer shoulder bars, documents will stay with his collection as we are on the noble search for story.

It seems that the consensus is that the medal is an authentic early issue unmarked KC. As far as the story of how it came into Lt. Rittner's possession, I have deducted about 3 'non-definitive' conclusions; as I quote "......And when the dust all settles and the story is told; history is made by the side of the road." (Country rock band Drive-by Truckers - "Monument Valley" ...check it out)

In time I will post his story on the Individual Soldier's History Forum.

    Thanks again.

    yours in
    chasing history
