    EK1s with magnetic pins?

    Hi,

I read somewhere that some EK1s have magnetics pins. Is this true?
To the best of my knowledge, the majority of EK1s have non-magnetic pins.

Anyway, Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year to everyone in WAF.

    Regards,
    Fariz

Plated iron pin is tipical of some Souval crosses....and some unidentified crosses.

I´ve just got an L/57 with center from Schauerte & Hohfeld, but with an iron pin stamped by Souval...

Can you post a pic of the L/57??
              Sounds like a weird combination....

              Thanks,
              Ben

                Hello, Ben:
It´s just the one you sold to Desotos and he sold me...hey, the pin was broken at the hinge, do you remember it?.
I´ve been comparing it with another L/57s and in most of them the pins are similar, iron pins and made by Souval...Didn´t you notice it?

Well, since I don't recall selling Desotos am ek with the pin broken of, a pic might be helpful.

                  Best regards,
                  Ben

                    Dear Ben,
Here are the photos you requested:

Broken pin at the hinge area view:

                    Side view:

                    Another view:
                    http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...pse123/4-1.jpg

The point of the Souval pin is marked with a black arrow, it´s easy to recognise it as Souval production:
                    http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...se123/5bis.jpg

When I wrote Desotos about the broken pin (I bought it through e-stand), he answered me with next sentences:

" I knew the pin was loose. I dont knew what to do. I purchased the EK from Ben Bijker in same condition for 275€. And he didnt tell me about it (...)"

The pin is made from iron sheet, stamped with a die press. It seems that Boerger & Co bought parts from diferent makers/dealers, as the center is from Schauerte & Hohfeld, and the pis is from Rudolf Souval. I´ve seen the same pin in another L/57 crosses.

Early Souval examples (thin swas) has the flat pin (like this L/57 cross), later examples show the same pin but bended at 90º near the hinge (wide swas).

Well, I can assure you that I didn't notice the broken pin, that's why I didn't know what cross you were referring to.
I will inspect the crosses better from now on.

If I had known about this issue, I would have told it when I offered the cross to Desotos, I never " cover up" because I know how it feels....

But it's always good to read that I am responsible for Desotos not telling you about this issue "because I didn't mention it" ......
FYI: Desotos never mentioned anything about a broken pin, otherwise I would have taken the cross back or arranged something financially.
I already mailed him that I don't intend to take the blame for something I didn't notice, but he knowingly didn't mention to you.
                      That really pisses me off.

                      Best regards,
                      Ben

                        Don´t worry, Ben.

The broken pin was mainly anecdotic.

I´m more interested in relationships between diferent makers/dealers...like the one posted now in this thread, I think it´s interesting.

Speaking about EK Is, another examples are Souval/Orth and Zimmermman/Godet, but I think this is a singular case in wich parts from two makers are assembled by a third one in the same piece.

                        Best regards.

Mayb it is anecdotic, but I don't like it.
I have a good reputation (not only on this forum) and that is worth a lot to me.
Hate to see it " put up for discussion" like this.

I wouldn't put that at stake for an ek with a broken pin.
Desotos should have taken that in consideration, instead of hiding behind my back when you found out the pin was broken.

So to me this is an issue, and I have sent Desotos a mail to express my
                          " feelings"

But back to the topic of this thread.
If you start comparing crosses and their components, you will find a lot of co-operation between different manufacturers.
I wouldn't call it " common" , but it was no exception.

                          Best regards,
                          Ben

Does somebody knows another iron crosses -but Souval and half Schinkel- with magnetic pins?

                              Ben:
On the other hand and talking about the L/57 I published, just to say that Desotos offered me a full refund prior to posting the photos, there is no complaint with him.
                              Thank you, Ben.
