Well, I bought it so soon enough we will find out about this strange situation. I asked twice in two different languages and each time the answer was the same; the core isn't any sort of metal. Here are some other pictures until I scan it after I receive it.

I really don't know, but how did they get the date so crisp from leather?
I think this is bs really....
(from the seller of course!!)
I really can't think of any reason to replace a de-nazified iron core by leather or cardboard.
If you manage to mutilate a cross so far that the core comes out, the next logical step is the bin.....
But I am very curious what Anthony will find in the package, I really am.
Best regards,
Ben

Well, I got the cross today and it turns out that it is a regular iron core after all; the cardboard part is an insert placed in the hole left by the removal of the swastika. For some reason the core was touched up with what seems to be shoe polish. I believe that this is an unmarked 100, a Rudolf Wachtler & Lange. I don't have one of these in my collection (although I prefer marked examples) so its not such a bad deal. There wasn't much bidding on it because it was hyped as a non-metal core and I think that put people off it. So there, mystery solved...Attached Files
