    Recognize this beading?

    Hi guys,

I thought that this might be a 55 at first but not so sure now. I'm thinking this beading may be a recognizable clue. Can anyone tell me maker from these photos?

    Regards to all,
    Stu

I see what you mean by the 55 look, i thought that too. Looks similar to an ek2 i have.

              Hi Stu :

To me looks like a S&L . The same one 5tefan had as an EK1 and posted a few days ago .

Looks like ladder rungs...quite different , and is the left side 9 oclock verticle end bowed out to the outside some ever so slightly? Might be my imagination.Nice looking anyway.

Its something with this cross, but i can't put my finger on it. Its certainly a very nice cross. The frame looks kinda bent / uneven / weird, like the '55' frame shape, (dont get me wrong, the Hammer+Sohne shape is beautiful), but I do not think its a '55'. Strange. But a lovely cross nevertheless

                    Another picture - different lighting

                    Hi guys,

                    Thanks for the comments.

Douglas, I've now had time to compare this with several S&L and just don't see that it's the same. Close, in some aspects, but not enough. Having said that you may well be correct. I know your knowledge of EK goes far beyond mine. My eyes are not as sharp as they once were so maybe I'm missing what you are seeing. Might this be a S&L just prior to a die being reworked or replaced? How about a 25? I had one before where a very similar bead flaw was present. Here is the link...

Anyone else care to venture an opinion? Here is another photo taken with less light. Possibly it will show details that were not apparent in the originals.

Also, the cross is symetrical. The distortion shown in the original photographs was a result of the background I set it on not being perfectly flat.

                    Kind regards,
                    Stu

IMO a L. Christian Lauer EK II.
The frame looks indeed like a Hammer & Söhne, but Lauer used a similar frame design.

Excellent job, Daniel! The '3' in '1939' really stands alone.

Is your EK 2 maker marked for Lauer?

                              George,

Mine is not marked, no, but is with original packet and matches the marked examples to the letter.
