        Why fake a Souval?

        Hello,

Interesting that they would go to the trouble to fake a Souval (if it is a fake and I'm not yet convinced that it is) as they are controversial to begin with. Not much profit margin there I would think.

It does have the Dipped 3 and other characteristics of a Souval frame and core. My eyes, not being as young as they once were, can't really see it that well. Can you give us a real crisp close up? It's rather an interesting little piece.

        Thank you for showing it.

        Regards,
        Stu

Hello This item is from a friends collection. He quite collecting TR about 10-15 years ago. I'm in the process of buying and trading for all his original TR stuff. I'm going to post alot of stuff for opinions. Kirby

Looks like an original Souval to me. When and why the cross was attached to that cloth is any ones guess. So they wouldnt have to rely on the pin assembly to keep attached to uniform?

But then again ... original Souval's? WE must know they are all post war by now ... no?

              Authentic IMHO

              Hi Kirby,

Thanks for the larger picture. I can now see the die flaw I was wanting to check. It's clearly in place and I think your Souval is an original. As to that method of attachment...I wonder if it was something simple like copying the method used to secure some arm shields.

              Regards,
              Stu

Interesting mounting technique. I also believe it to be a wartime Souval. My first thought, seeing the front view, was that it might have been mounted to a leather flight jacket. But, the reverse doesn't look like leather, but more a synthetic type material. I don't know. I'm sure there's an answer to it. Maybe your friend has some sort of explanation from whoever he got it from.

It might be from an old biker jacket. Hells Angels and such. Interesting piece.

Hello The backing isn't leather. It looks like paper on thin cardboard. Like it might have been an awards case of some sortt. It must have taken a lot of work to drill the 12 tiny holes and mount the metal. Thanks for the info. Kirby

                        Kirby,

This kind of modification can be made in less than 1/2 hour. It's not that complicated.

Perhaps what is more telling is that after this 'improvement' was done it was never sewn to anything yet alone a uniform.

I would not pay any extra premium for this EKI over what the value of one missing it's hardware is worth.

                            ...very interesting mounting style -
A matter of taste obviously, but personally, I like it very much

There might be some truth in this. It looks like something a biker would do. Nowadays they sew them to their tongue or navel.
