    Iron Cross P.O.W. art

This carving has a Souval EK2 attached to it at the top and the word Bizerte carved at the bottom. The base of it has a nice carving of a german helmet. From doing a bit of research I believe this to be from a German POW camp in Bizerte, Tunisia after the Germans lost Tunisia in 1943. Any other thoughts?

... or the place where he got the EK I.
He lost the EK I during the capture and used his EK II for this commemorative-piece after the war.

That's a good conjecture too Grueni! Guess once it leaves the hands of the original owner and eventually loses its original provenance well, who knows? Thanks for the interest.

First off, great piece. Too bad we don't know for sure the whole story behind it.

BUT - I'll conjecture that when made, it was noticed that the EK wouldn't sit well - or look as good - when mounted with lug & suspension rings. Easy fix? Off with the rings! For a cleaner, easier to mount piece.

Just my whimsical thoughts, all the best.
