I'm pretty sure I have some info for you. I used to own one of these pieces of junk. Sold as original by a UK dealer and "authenticated" by an expert. Seems logical that they were indeed made in England, or maybe made by SL... don't know. This issue has long since been worked out, and I no longer have the piece, but it looked to have been made from original parts, just very poorly assembled with sloppy, unfinished joints and with zero lacquer, frosting etc. to the frames..just the bare metal. It also had a different hinge as I remember. Since that time I have seen one other, in an antique store. If you showed me a picture of a specific piece, I could compare it to my memory of the two I have seen.
This same company made different grades of the Croatian Order of the Crown of King Zvonimir (a WW2 Croatian Award) in the 1970's...I can only wonder what else was made,
