    KVK2, chance in hell?

obviously fake ribbon and ring but is there any chance that the cross itself is ok?

I actually think it's all ok, the ribbon looks good, the cross looks like a zincer that has had a hard life and lost its finish and the ribbon ring just made from a different material than the cross.
The only red flag for me is the pitting on the swastika but it looks like it has been trodden on or had something dropped on it maybe?

          Hi Don,
Sorry about the quality but this is the best i could get of the edges. What you cannot see in the scan is what looks to be filing marks. Is this normal for this cross?

Just to backtrack on my initial post, if the ring has a break as you have shown then this very well may be a replacement ring. I made the assumption that it was an unbroken ring so apology's if I was misleading.

I dont see any "Real issues"
It looks to be zinker with a steel suspension ring which has retained its finish. Most late war Kvk,s i have encountered have a "Gap" in the ring and as usual with late zinkers has lost its finish. Its normally the earlier better quality"tombak" versions that have the unbroken rings.Even those commonly have the "gap" in the ring.
As for the edge and the "filing" marks,i can tell from the pics but its most probaly "shear marks" which resemble "File marks" in some respects. If they are evident that is a common phenomana.

Put a magnet on the ring and tell us what you find.

                      Hello there,

Interested in purchasing this one or do you own it already?

I picked this up at a show yesterday for a whole $15 which is why im pretty skeptical.
The dealer assured me the cross itself but agreed that the ribbon and ring are probably replacements. no reaction from the magnet. ribbon has a very cheap/synthetic feel to it, i have yet to pick up a blacklight so i havent been able to use that method. the way i see it, most reproductions are more than $15 so if its real, all the better, if not, such is life.

It still amazes me that they are faking KVK2s, along with Westwall medals and black wound badges. I suppose there are reenactors who would wear a repro BWB, but who wears a Westwall medal? Anway, it wasn't that long ago that a mint KVK2 would run you $20, hardly worth the trouble to produce the dies, ribbon, rings, and then assemble them I would think. Then again, somebody is making money on it or they wouldn't be doing it.
