    Chris,

this cross was not made by one of the known official manufacturers of Knights Crosses during the period of the 3rd Reich.

I also seriously doubt that this cross is the one the Hauptmann actually got on the date you mentioned.

I am by no means a KC expert, but the swaz on that one looks "too far to the left" and is not centered properly.

It is touching the frame waffling on the left side, yet not on the right.

The neck tie ribbon doesn't look good to me either.

Maybe purchased by the gentleman after 1945 as a replacement ?...you will have a difficult job convincing people this is pre 1945.

holder with the cross is a photo-montage of 41/42 photo in Leutnant tunic

With items like this it is essentual that it is a known example and bulletproof from questions, even with a photo of the guy wearing it, who is to say when or where the photo was taken,

                who knows?

who knows if the cross is pre 1945

but for most people they would rather settle on a known, good example from one of the well known and well documented producers of these awards.

Perhaps he never got the KC (except on paper) and then bought one after the war.
IMO the cross you show us is not produced during the Third Reich era.

                      Nope

Sorry..but there is nothng I am seeing that would make me change my mind.

The photo looks like the RK has been added in the studio.....and brings us more to the opinion that this RK is not original of WW2 vintage. I would be prepared to accept that it belonged to the fellow, but as I mentioned before, you will have a lot of trouble convincing anyone that this is an original WW2 RK...which in my humble opinion it isnt.

                      Regards
                      C

The date on the Bescheinigung, is it really 31.10.1945??

The eyelet looks like the early '57 S&L production w/ unfiled metal excess.

Erm, that cross has been added on using photo shop or something, because that definatly isnt right, just look at it! Poor, very poor indeed.

Must agree with the others.. The KC is not one from a known (official) manufacturer of the Third Reich. The paint looks to be of bad quality/brushed on almost?

Please give us a VERY good scan of the image where he is actually wearing his KC! You should be able to tell if it is a real photo or modified in photoshop or equal!

As others have said, maybe this KC belonged to the officer, but it will be up to each and every collector to determine wheter or not to believe it! Replacement pieces (jeweller copies) or EK2s made into KC's are JUST that, a replacement or a modification.. A Lada does not become a Mercedes if you pin a star at the front ;-) If you are happy with the collection, great! But this KC shown is not an official KC!
