#51 Iron Cross 1st class screwback

Hi there, The local friend showed me the 1939 Iron Cross 1st class screwback with number 51. I tried to search for #51 screwback on this forum but no success. Do this manfacturer #51 make those such screwbacks??? This EK was vaulted. I am not sure about this #51 EK 1st class. I appreciates your help! Thanks

    Have a look here...

Hello, I do not believe that the 51 is a recognized EK maker. Have a look at this thread...it tells of the fake 51 in pin back form...

      Stu,

As you have already seen they are usually a 1-piece construction. Here's a SB version...

Right off the bat, should't any legitimate screwback be marked with an LDO number? Are there even unmarked screwbacks out there? If it's like the one Robert is showing, steer clear. I don't think there is even a maker 51 listed, and if there was it should'nt be on a screwback.

There is an unmarked 'unknown maker' SB in Gordon Williamson's book. Here is my example:

                  Steve,

Ben Bijker has a pinback version of this SB. He may be onto finding the maker, possibly a '19'...

They aren't common all the same. There are none with a PZK (I think that's the initials) number, that I'm sure of.

                      Hello

I believe that you are correct in saying that marked screwbacks would carry an LDO number as they were only ever intended for private purchase and not as award pieces. There are, however, genuine wartime made screwbacks which are unmarked.

I agree that anything marked '51' should be treated as a fake / reproduction.

                      Regards
                      David

Screwback pieces produced pre 1941 can be genuine, without carrying an LDO makers mark.

Hello Robert, You posted two photos of this EK 1st SB is very identical to the EK 1st SB that I saw yesterday. Is this #51 EK 1st SB a reproduction? Does #51 make any Iron Crosses during TR era? I found #51 on the offical German medal/order manfacturers. Thanks,James

Yes, the '51' SB is a reproduction, a fake. Eduard Goriach & Sohne may have made EK's, but I'm not personally aware of any. Maybe someone else could help on this.

Hello Robert, Thanks much! I now know that #51 EK1 is a reproduction. Thanks much for answering my questions regarding this #51 EK1 SB. I still wait for further info on that EK1 SB. Thanks! James
