    ek1 spange, opinions please

I still have a lot to learn in general, but I'm very insecure when it comes to ek 1 Spange.

Just ran into this one, and I would like to hear some opinions.

    Thanks,
    Ben

        Ben,

I like the looks of this badge, but that has not one thing to do with originality, right? I've looked through my files that I have saved from the forum's 'good' spanges, and found something similar, although screwback. I can see similarities.

Jon, what do you think? It really resembles a first pattern Juncker, without the scalloped trapazoid.

            Hi Robert,

Do you recall where you found this pic??

Yes, I really do like the looks of this Spange, but since there is little reference on these it's kind of hard to "do your homework".

I just bought a screwback, that one bugged me for 3 or 4 days since I couldn't find any other screwback pics.....
I will post pics as soon as it arrives.

            Best regards,
            Ben

No, Ben, I don't remember. I just gather them into a folder as they are judged by the members. This one turned up being a good one. I'm still learning myself, and really only know 5-6 actual makers at first sight. This is the 1st pattern Juncker I own that your badge really resembles, other than the trapazoid, and no veins in the inner wing feathers.

I should have started with a file myself as well, would have been a lot easier.....

Nice clasp Robert, I came across this pic on my search, an as you already mentioned the only differences are the curved date box, and the veins.

It's really hard to believe so many variations were produced over such a small period.

                Thanks for your input!

                Best reagrds,
                Ben

                  No problem Ben,

I'm sure jon and others will see this and help out. I like the looks of it very much, even the hardware. I've often thought it might be a Juncker 'transition' piece, but I won't say yes or no. Jon ('tinmantis') started threads to identify various makers of the EKI's:

The Spange Robert posted in posts 4 and 5 is mine. Here's a not-so-ancient scan.

Reverse open. (Hey, Ben. Now I'm thinking about that Spange you PMed me about. What do you think? A match except for the mark?)

This could very well be the same one George!
All others had no veins on the small feathers, this one does.

Overall appearance is quite similiar, can't wait to have it in hand.

As soon as it arrives, I will post better pics.

                          Best regards,

is your screwback the exact same as the pinback at the start of this thread?
                            regards

                              Hi Jon,

                              very hard the say.
the pics are made under a different angle, and the screwback-pics aren't really good.
Overall appearance is quite similar though

                              Regards,
                              Ben
