I agree with John, if you buy it, make sure you pay the going price for an EK2 with a repro ribbon.

That combination does not look convincing. The ribbon was attached long after the war ended.

Why would there be an original war time tri-fold ribbon for the 1939 EK2?

I undertand why there would be one for the WW1 EK2, as the countries were separate and each wore their medals differently. But after 1938, Austria ceased to exist and was just part of Germany, so the soliders from former Austria would wear their medals per German regulations.

I do understand why post WW2 tri-fold ribbons exist for the 1939 EK2, as the countries were separate again, and the Austrians went back to their old ways. I remember buying bunches of tri-fold ribbons when I lived in Austria in 1972-73. I went to a clothing store and they had the ribbons on display for sale to veterans that needed them. I remember I amazed the clerk because I could readily identify each of the different ribbons they had for sale. When I had finished selecting which ribbons I wanted, the clerk went in the back room and brought me an old packet from the war to put the ribbons into. He told me they were a uniform supply store during the war, and since I was so interested in those times, I would appreciate the little packet. I did, and I still have it!

I think one of these post war ribbons is all you will find for an "Austrian" form of the 1939 EK2...Tom

The EK II and the ribbon are fakes!

The EK II is a new fake version.
At first I saw this fake version in Stuttgart 2 years ago.

                characteristic features:
                - misshapen swastica
                - graphite type core
                - unsharp number design
                - polish rests on the frame

                Regards

                Grueni
                Regards

I currently owns a authentic Austrian-style tri-fold 1939 EK2 that I bought at a local militaria show earlier this year. Before I bought this 1939 tri-fold EK2 medal from a local dealer,I never seen any pictures of this hard to find 1939 tri-fold EK2. Now I am aware of this 1939 tri-fold EK2 and its WW1 counterpart 1914 tri-fold EK2. Austrian soldiers wore this medal mounting style along with Croatian soldiers who have identical tri-fold style medal mountings. Thanks regards
