two crosses from my vet father in law

We found these in my father in laws attic after he was placed in a nursing home with alzheimers. They were on a poolitical banner along with about 30 other badges, tinnies, and pins. He never talked about them or even mentioned them. Wanted to share them with you and get some help like.
Should I clean them?
How should I clean them?
Should I try to get a couple of ribbons for them?

Hello Frank!

What a super find They are really beauties and you must NOT clean them! Keep them as they are. 60+ years of wonderful patina is not done in a days work and should be kept as it is. Hope someone else can help you with the makers of these. Ribbons would make them look good

Hi,
Great find! And as previously stated... Do NOT clean them!!
The 65 marked 1939 EKII is from the firm of Klein & Quenzer of Idar/Oberstein.
There are frequently very good value EK ribbons for sale on the estand, it would be good to re-unite this cross with an original ribbon!

Unfortunately I cannot help with the 1914 EKII... although I'm sure someone will be along soon who can fill you in on it's maker.

Hi Frank,
Well done on your find although sorry to hear about the circumstances in which they came to light.
As has already been mentioned, please don't clean them, they look great as they are and if you want mint crosses, you can obtain them easily. The decision to get ribbons is up to you, depends how you want to display or keep them. Personally I wouldn't put ribbons on these particular crosses as this is how your father in law collected them and it would be kind of nice to keep them as they are for him.
Having said that, EKs do look good with ribbons and I know if I bought a cross without a ribbon I would put one on it. The decision is yours!
