EK 2 Deschler
Hi Robert:
As you know Deschler is one of my favorites. I have not seen a Deschler with non-hump frame until this example. I guess its possible that a manufacturer could have temporarily run out of frames and purchased from another manufacturer to fill an order, however this pure speculation and I don't recall ever seeing another as of yet. I currently have a few hump frame Deschlers and the frames are identical. I also saw a round 3 ek2 with a true deschler frame that was unmarked it too had the same traits as the hump frame ek2. Your guess is as good as mine, I have to agree with the overall consenus, item posted without the hump frame possibly remarked #1

Yes, Rick, the '1' is different than any other Deschler product I have found since starting this thread.
I can understand that during the end of the war with the bombing going on, the manufacturers had to make due with whatever they could find to 'piece together' awards to keep the fighting men encouraged to keep going on under overwhelming odds on both fronts. I believe during this time frame there were a lot of manufactures lending pieces and parts to others so that they could keep their required quotas met. I can live with this. But with the advent of new maker marks I have to say "Whoa, wait a minute." And there had better be more than one example shown by others to back up this theory, or the theory is useless. Like I said, this was the second of two pieces that I have seen recently that had the same style maker mark. And it actually could have been the same piece! Who's to say it wasn't. It was offered to me by the same person, only weeks apart. Also was offered a Juncker EKII with the stamped '2' laying in line with the ring, rather than at 90 degrees to the ring as always seen, and twice the size! I said, "No thanks." Somebody else bought it, and was pleased pink, thinking it was the real deal. All I can say is, our EKII fortress is being invaded, and we all need to be on guard. This has been one more learning curve for me. My conclusion to the issue is the original cross was defaced with an improper mark, like having a US WWII PH privately engraved today to make it something that it's not, to make more money - one more EK ruined.
