most people believe that these crosses were made by W&L L/55 or 100.

        Stefan,

Thanks for the quick reply, are there many unmarked W&L EK_1's out there?

Believe? Why would someone NOT believe these are W&L's?

because i have never seen a mm'd (L55, 100) cross like this with a "wire"- hook before.
Since W&L and Junckers (which do have a wire hook) are very similar i see a very little chance that these crosses could have been made by Juncker as well.

But the obverse is a W&L, not a Juncker. As well the pin and hinge is a match to W&L.

                Hi Bill,
Does it have a non magnetic core?

                    Hi,

the difference is the die flaw (i marked it in the following pic) in the 12 o'clock beading, right side in the center.
There is no Juncker Cross with this flaw. Thats the most important but not only difference.

                    Regards
                    Andreas

                      Hi Andreas,

can you please posta better picture since i have no idea what you mean. Furthermore please list all the other differences between W&L and Juncker.

                      thanks,
                      Stef

The difference pointed out by Andreas is a die flaw which is about three 'beads' which are squashed together more than the others. Its almost as if the person making the die had a set number of beads to fit into the arm and when he got towards the end realised there wasn't enough room to get them all in normally so he squashed a few smaller ones in.
Hardly the most technical description but hope it sheds a bit of light on the issue!

Hi Stefan, a little late getting back to this one, but like others have shown, there are some definite differences between the two. Andreas shows the # 1 obvious difference that you can spot a mile away.

Good grief, you guys are good! How do you find out all this stuff? Seems obvious once you are told where to look but I have never seen all these little variations documented.

                            Thanks for helping us learn.

                            best wishes
