    E-Bay

    Robert

Consider yourself lucky. E-Bay is a tough environment. The volume of fake police patches is epidemic and E-Bay doesn't seem very interested in addressing it. You can't even depend on photos, since a lot of them use bait and switch pics.

If I see something that is "too good to be true" I generally ask for specific pics so I know that they have the patch in their possession. Also, check out exisiting feedback (in this case your guy had a negative which referenced a repro) and if you look at his other closed items (last 5 auctions) he is using the same pic on multiple auctions. Worse case scenario, contact E-Bay and let them know that fact.

There are honest dealers and they are the ones who will be happy to answer any questions you might have or supply pics in a timely manner.

    Happy Collecting,
    Andrew

NOTE: I just looked and the last 11 of 12 auctions have been Iron Crosses. Either he is very lucky or he is running one heck of a scam !!!!

I have a question and please forgive me I am new!
I found last week in my Grandmother's things her brother had bought home from WWII a knights cross with swords and it says 1939 on one side and a nazi sign on the other. It looks just like the one at www.angelfire.com/nj/ww2/kcwmc.html the one SS Brigadefuhrer Hans Kehrl has around his neck. Does anyone know about these??

          That's good, Hagwalther.

Mtmist, you're suddenly a famous individual. The Knight's Cross is one of the most sought after awards that exist. What a way to start a collection !!!!

Robert BTW, thanks guys for the tips on eBay. It's a minefield.

I started a new thread and got some good advice on checking the medal out. I need to take pictures of both medals and the bracelet and see what I have.
              Thanks for all the advice!!!

Glad it worked out with Paypal Robert, they are always a better option than ebay, ebay just don't care & after a standard reply will basically ignore you.
It was interesting to see in the auction pictures that the gap in the ring had been hidden by being placed within the lower ring. These guys will stop at nothing to rip people off. If you have time it would be a good idea to report him to ebay.

                  Thanks Ant,

Yeah, but it's just like you said, eBay doesn't really care whether anyone sells repros and the like. I honestly think they give little to no concern to people like this, just as long as they can make some money off of their sales. I'm starting to have more respect for Manions because it at least has more original pieces going through. Last week I saw a person, a large TR seller on eBay, selling the same fake PAB after being sent four or five photos showing what an original FLL 43 PAB looks like. He refunded the money to the buyer (me) who became aware of it being a fake, but put the badge right back on line to sell again after if was returned to him. Absolutely no conscience at all. It's all about the dollar. Somewhere along the line this seller had his conscience seared. He's got no more conscience than a snake's got hips. No, I'm sorry to sound so negative, but a little truth is refreshing. I am so sick of these guys selling their junk. But what makes it even worse is eBay who will not police it's boards. Wouldn't it be nice if they hired our moderators to police their boards? They could still sell their fakes, but they would need to identify them as such, not as originals. It's the greatest age of deception this world has ever known. We need to be more on our toes than ever before.

Here's the fake PAB that has fooled many collectors recently. Man, I have really had a bad streak this last month, two fakes.I should have researched them better. I made the mistakes happen.

I must agree with everything you say there Robert. Ebay is a terrible place really, but for someone in my business it's an essential selling tool, but i don't much like it, have had a lot of trouble with them over the years. Unfortunately the law is on their side, they have been taken to court in the States by Franklin Mint amongst others for allowing fakes to be sold on their site & therefore dragging the name of Franklin Mint & others through the mud, but unfortunately the U.S. courts agree that it's not ebays responsibility!
Well, your suggestion that people from this Forum should police ebay is brilliant, but this has been put forward before by other collector groups & is always rejected by ebay as it will hurt their profits. They haven't been doing as well over the last year or so & are in the middle of a huge share buy back to boost their value.
Sorry about all that, just don't get me started on ebay
Luckily the business i'm in really doesn't have many fakes, this militaria collecting is a real eye opener & you're right that we need to keep on our toes.
Fortunately i don't think anyone will ever make the "perfect" fake, but some are so good it does make life hard for the collector, so it's even more important that places like this Forum exist.
                    Ant.
