That is sad, if I was the son I would keep that in the family, but this is a common occurance in Germany because they're trying to erase history.

I disagree. I am sure people sell for many many reasons, but not to "try and erase history".

Look at it this way, the way it was explained to me once: Families keep things. But you can't keep everything. (Do any of us have EVERYTHING from our families? Sometimes it would be nice, but think of the storage.) You have to pick and choose. Perhaps they have some of their father's stuff from more peaceful times, how they'd rather remember him.

If they choose to sell this part of their family history, so be it. But it's disrespectful and ignorant to imagine any one of us know their personal reasons.
