this one is for auction....The KC is marked "65" and its from a formal Hauptsturmbahnfuehrer der SS LSAAH ....KC was awarded posthum.

It comes with a lot of documents signed by good old Sepp.

There was no such rank as this in the Waffen-SS. It was written as SS-Obersturmbannfuehrer and these decorations (if original) could only be attributed to Georg Schoenberger, commander SS Pz.Rgt 1 'LSSAH'. He was KIA on 20.11.43 and awarded the RK posthumously on 20.12.43. There would need to be rock-solid provenance to establish a connection between a decoration and the soldier who it purportedly belonged too...Best, John

There is a photo of Georg ( THEIR HONOR WAS LOYALTY, page 362 ) wearing several awards , including a similar cross to the one with the red enamel .
Was it a common practice (if it could be done) that the decorations of a KIA commanding officer be removed by his troop before burial and sent to his family ?
