    Opinion EK2

    Hi Guys!
My new EK2 and need some backup. As I can identifie its 65 and the paint is very different what I have seen before. Anyway I feel good with this one. One more thing: how common was EK2 to issue in box? And what about the silver frame or were they only a private purchase?
    Thanks.

Your cross is fine in my opinion. The german iron cross during WW2 did not contain any silver. The frame is made of an alloy: copper, nickel and zinc. This material/alloy has many names: German Silver, Nickel Silver or Alpacca.

              Nice marked '65' cross!

German silver: 1. Neusilber, 2. Altsilber

I think the alloys, their appearances and effects of age are covered in this forum somewhere.

Crosses exposed to high-humidity and handling with oily fingers tarnish faster than a cross kept in an untouched and low-humidity environment.

There were silver EKII's manufactured during the war-period, some having an '800' content stamped on their rings. Here's one:

They might have been private purchase I would think. Ask the pros here.

I just purchased this beauty off of the forum.
