Ek2 "55"

So, would you guys say that these '55' crosses are late-war production pieces, or just the result of a sloppy maker?

Honestly, if I was awared one of these "sloppy 55's" , I'd be pissed

As you can see, it has the same flaws inside the frame, just not as bad as some of the others posted here

mm. You can see here the lousy beading better than on the first two pics. Looks like the dies bounced, shifted, but a bad job, no matter what happened. Tinmantis has some really good pics. of these crosses.

Ok the way I see it is that I strongly doubt they made a ****ty die like that. They look double struck or something. That makes me think the machinery got some sort of glitch. I would assume that the glitch was not always there. So where is a crisp "55"??? These darn things are pretty fugly!

Could be unskilled labor too. Foriegn guest worker perhaps doing his/her bit to bring down the Reich.

You could add mint "100s" and "65s" to the list of suddenly common IMO. You can find several of each on ebay any day of the week. Doesn't mean they are real or fake though. Could be that with the price this stuff is brining in people are selling, especially family members of recently deceased vets. The WW2 generation is rapidly disappearing.

I agree Don a lot of these popped up recently, but the difference is that there were always a number of threads with pics of them to compare to for a very long time. I got my 55 not too long ago and at that time there were almost none on any thread on all of the site. Now I have seen a bunch of these pop up. coupled with the horrible quality of them got me wondering.
