Looks like a nice original unmarked brass core EK, a friend of mine obtained an unmarked piece from a German vet with the same characteristics as the one you have shown here. I have not been able to work out the maker though. From the outside case looks good also. He was awarded the EK in the French campaign so I assume these are pro LDO pieces.

      Hi,

I have no problems regarding authenticity with either the case or the cross from what I can see from the images. The catch on the cross has been repaired though. I also see a contradiction in the finish - mint frosting on the beading but totally worn swastika. I can only think that the recipient deliberately removed the black finish from the swastika for aesthetic reasons.

        Hello Andy,

I have the same cross. I had it for ages without being 100% sure on it, the reason being that the beading on the bottom of the "9 o`clock" arm is flawed which I belive I can see on the cross you picture.
If you look closely on that beading close to the left corner you can see 2 "beads" that are almost joined making what looks like 1 thick bead.
I don`t have any pics of my cross but I have attached a picture of a similar cross from Detlev`s site, you can just make out the flaw.
I agree that the catch on your cross has been replaced, all others I have seen have had a round wire catch.

        Best regards,
        Adrian.

        Picture from Detlev Niemann, Hamburg.
I hope the new owner doesn`t mind the picture being used, if there is a problem I will remove it.

          Best regards,
          Adrian.

Thanks to Brian R and Ralph A for their permission to use the pictures.

I can say, with certainty, that the catch on that EK above was never repaired. I think it's just that particular picture and the few scratches that may make it look that way.

No problem, Vince!. Sorry to come off a little harsh - definately not my intention.

The catch on this cross is original as Brian said. The one in Andy`s link at the top of the thread has had the catch replaced or maybe it is the original catch that was broken and repaired?

                        Best regards,
                        Adrian.
