    Is this EK1 real?

I was wondering if this EK1 is real since it is unmarked, and I might buy it for $400.

Here is what he posted about it: Here is the cased EK1 from the US Majors grouping. It is a nice cased I believe field vaulted EK1. This cross has a stunning blackish patina to it. The cross seems split on one of the arms because of the vaulting. I could have a jeweler repair it but the new owner might want to do it them self's. That pin/hinge attachment makes me kind of nervous, but I don't see anything that overtly says it is bad.

I see Bill Rannow is a member of the forum here, you should be okay with this as long as he offers a return or exchange policy from his website if something does turn out to be bad.

I also don't like this one, The hinge and catch assembly makes it very questionable. For me i would leave it and save my money on a better, more textbook cross. The case looks ok, but if your really set on it, make a good returning agreement with the seller.

              Cheers:Peter

I like the cross. The types with this hinge setup are normally encountered with the round "3".

I would leave this one. I dont like the pin and catch set up either!. I just had to send one back to a dealer with a very similar pin and catch setup. I am no expert by a long way lol!!!. But can anyone else see the line on the left hand side of the catch?.
In peters article on flochs I read this was a way to tell if a cross was bad. The line has been placed there so the catch is placed in the correct position.

Just my views but still learning

                    Here's a round 3 cross for comparison:

                      Hi,

                      i agree with heinrich.
IMO the cross is an early very good manufactured piece.
But far being save I would make an agreement with the seller that includes that there is the possibility for giving back after watching and in the case of doubt let make a COA from an expert.

                      Regards
                      Andreas

A COA? Forget that. If you think your going to sleep better at night with one your only fooling yourself.

So in another words this cross is a fake?
I am sorry I lack experiance and information for the ek1 WWII.

                            Dear Stephen,

The pin and catch arrangement are reminiscent of what I see on early Schinkel type crosses. Nothing bad really stadns out on the cross. if the cross was indeed hand vaulted then a nice side view would show if it was. Typically a hand vaulted corss will show seperation between the core area near the swastica and the inner beading arms (corners).

As I had mentioned in my previous thread, do a search on the forum to find a nice maker (find the EK poll). If you have any doubts about something I would not buy it. It is always better to have soemthing that you are pleased with...helps you sleep beter at night.

As an aside, although I have had no business dealings with him, Bill Rannow seems to be a good guy. I have talked with him at a few shows and he is always willing to share items even though there was no intent tp purchase.
