Guys, thanks to all for the opinions and for taking the time to help me. Unfortunately the owner of this cross will have to come back down to earth with a bump!
I have some other items that I need an opinion on, I am hoping that Allan will not mind posting some pictures again.
Thanks again.

Hello all, many thanks again to Allan for posting these, I owe you!
Mikael, I am certain that the first 2 were bad, unfotunately I purchased them both before I found this forum. My eagerness to try and own a little pice of history blinded me to the fakers. The third cross was purchased from a well known dealer recently. The black paint on the core has run and it made a friend of mine query it's 3 part construction. The dealer confirmed it's authenticity by e-mail but I was still unsure. All 3 look similar, but do have their own characteristics. The only way I could find out is by using the incredible knowledge on this forum.
You live and learn!

The 1957 crosses are at the best a late production by Steinhauer & Luck. These "late" crosses started to surface in the 80's. Early pieces made during the 60's and 70's are of much better quality. The first run from S&L was produced using their wartime frame tooling. The oakleaf in the center was different on these early ones in that they were slimmer in design. The core on these early RK's will have much better finish than these late ones.<O
Cheers.
