    Marker mark333

    Dear all,

i never heard that the no. 333 is a valid no. using by a company to produce german badges in ww2. No i read Mr. Weitzes ( in my mind a honest dealer ) catalog and have seen that he offered an EK2 which is marked 333 ! He wrote that 333 were used by a company located in Straßbourg. Does anybody else know more about that 333 marked badges ?

    EK2 marked 333

    Hello Christian

333 EK2's are pure fakes, they have been around for about 10 years or so. You will also find them in 666, and 999 markings. There was no firm prior to or during the Third Reich that used this makers marking. You may be interested to read these previous threads concerning these fakes:

I would be very interested to see the evidence that Mr. Weitze has to prove that these are original period pieces.

        Hello Christian

I am not familiar with Mr Weitze or his business at all, perhaps you could email him and point him in the direction of this thread? We are all here to learn and we would value his opinion on this matter.

I was offered an EK2 marked 333, but with a new twist! The medal itself has not changed, however, the one offered to me can in a wooden case lined with a plush burgandy lining that had the inset form of the EK. The box, which was of excellent crafted aged pine, had gold Japanese lettering on the lid. It was reported to have come from a vet obtained west coast connection. The seller was quite convinced of its originality. When I questioned why the Japanese would bother using our numerical system instead of their own, there were no answers fortcoming. The piece together with the box is very convincing. I only wish I had a camera with me to take photos.
            Cheers.

              Hello James,

That IS an interesting twist, and here's something to make it even more interesting. The Japanese DID use our numerical system. ALL WWII Japanese factory produced NCO swords have matching serial numbers on the blade and scabbard mouth. It also also common to see matching numbers on the seppa (spacers) of wartime officers' swords. You have hit on something very interesting here!
              How's things in Cowtown?

                Hi Roy, how goes it?!
It was funny in that the fellow who had the EK had a copy of Gordon Williamson's new book and had mentioned that he had seen the article on EK's from this site. Those two things in themselves were not funny but when he combined the info from the two sources he came up with "well, they did make them in Japan", and " it's no 333 piece". What he neglected to do was to look at the stamping on the ring...you guessed it, 333! The article on this site shows an EK 1, but it has Japanese markings. Someone went to a lot of work with the box, but I imagine they could be assembled quite easily with the right know how. I was quite taken by the set as it has quality to it. Cow town is same old same old! Come across anything interesting, send me an email!

Its all fine ,they remove an item when notified. But what happened to the part when they actually look at an item before offering it for sale.333 fakes arent that good that an experienced assessor would let it through.I get the feeling sometimes dealers offer fakes hoping that people just simply wont notice.

How come its common knowledge(and other forums) on here that 333 are fakes. Why dont weitzes know?
Ive seen too many bogus items eminate from from weitzes sight to ever treat them as a realistic prospect for purchasing.

                        regards keifer

                            Hi Keifer and all,
It's not strange at all ,ALL dealers will try to pass off fakes as unknown/real if they can get away with it,they know at the time and if it becomes common knowledge due to forums like this they pretend that they are just human? and all make mistake's? No dealer's have never sold a fake.

                              merdock-

i have to disagree with your placement of the word ALL.
while i would agree with you that this phenomenon occurs on
a far too routine basis, i have run across several individuals
who i believe to be scrupulous in their attempts to be
forthright. i don't mean without flaws, i do mean without
                              malicious intent.

                              regards, joe
