    Information Ek1

My nephew is very interested in uniforms and medals.
He would buy an iron cross first class and a SS/heer officiers cap or something and he will pay hundreds of euros if needed. But he don’t know how he can see if something is original or fake.

Could you maybe give him more information, like, how he can see if it is original (I know that is quite hard), how much it will costs, just all information is welcome? ( Probably he will buy this at Ciney)

This forum has a wealth of information to help the collector minimise the chances of buying fakes, which keep getting better and better. I would suggest going through the forum and finding information by searching on the items of interest. There are some guidelines to detect the fakes, but it is not that simple to just come up with a check list of how to buy genuine items.

I recommend looking at items for sale and comparing to genuine items posted on this forum, or even items declared as fakes on this forum. Do not rush into buying, but get use to what to look for in fakes and when in doubt compare the item to genuine and fakes to see how it compares. Finally you can always post the item on the forum for member feedback .

One good source is the forum here, from fellow members, who are always upgrading their collection and selling something from their collection to finance a new purchase !!

Hope this helps, and by the way welcome to the forum .

I would strongly encourage your nephew to do his homework before spending hundreds/thousands of euro on something he has no idea about, but I'm sure that if you or he committed to becoming full association members (which would allow you to post some pictures of a piece here prior to him purchasing it) that he will get all the helpful feedback he needs from our guys.

Henri has summed it up - to give general information on what is or is not 'original' is near impossible without a particular make of cross or visor as it covers SUCH a broad spectrum of information.

Without a particular piece in mind, one that he can examine, compare and then show us photo's of, it is impossible to give you all the knowledge on 'what to look for'... that is something he must do for himself.

      He could start here... http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/iron...ncrossmain.htm

Thank you both for the answers!
The first problem is that my nephew will buy these items at Ciney. So it is impossible THEN, to first show pictures.
