      Hi Sascha, nice picture, but we already had a period documentation about this type of cufftitle. I was only waiting to publish it because it will be published in a book about the campaign cufftitles.

        I agree with Antonio that it hasn't been a mystery for a long time. I
        encountered my first Black CT over 20 years ago. I got a picture of the CT directly from the vet. Jim

        PS The KURTZ book also has a picture of the Ct in wear.

          Nice picture !
          But it shows AFRIKAKORPS and not AFRIKA. I have the black Afrikakorps also in my collection.

            Great work Sascha and thanks for sharing.
            Maybe this was known by a handful of collectors but definitely not by most of us.

            I am sure this will not influence Antonio's book as his book on campaign cufftitles will be great as all his other books.

              Hi Sascha,

              My mistake. That's what happens when you don't read closely. I haven't seen the black Afrika CT. KURTZ does show a Black Afrika CT and classified it as an early LW version. I didn't remember seeing a wartime picture of the Black Afrika CT in his book. Jim

                Most DAK collectors have known about the various black ct's for many years, not too much mystery about it. First was the black AKCT as early as June '41. Worn by the Herr and a KM version with yellow lettering as well. Then there is the Afrika ct in block letters in both black and dark royal blue used by the Herr and LW. The LW had a gothic letter Afrika ct in mid to royal blue & black like the above threadstarter. The black gothic lettered Afrika ct was also worn by the Herr Pz troopen in Europe. Then the rarest of black ct's from the North African campaign the gothic lettered DAK ct, this one from a member of the 33rd Art Regt DAK. Thanks Mike.

                All were un-official ct's purchased and worn by the troops.

                  Any period proof or support about what you say Tim?
                  - Block letters cufftitle black and blue;
                  - gothic letter Afrika worn by Pz. Troops.

                      Tim, to be honest I see no one proof supporting what you said.

                      First the Afrika CT you posted is IMO a fake.
                      Second, as far as I know there's no one single evidence about the fact the Gothic AFRIKA CT was worn from Pz. troops too.
