Death Card Stalingrad-Shield

To be honest is the first time I see something like that!
I know there were the idea to make a Stalingrad shield but after the defeat for obvious reasons the shield were never made.
Maybe they are referring the the "Stalingrad Cross" of the 44 ID?
My books:
- THE WEHRPAß & SOLDBUCH OF THE WH
- THE SS TK RING
- THE ITALIAN-GERMAN MEDAL
- THE ANTI PARTISAN BADGE
- THE AWARDS OF THE LW
and more!

1) 44. Infanterie-Division was formed in Wien, but Nederndorf near Pfaffing is located in Germany
2) 44. Infanterie-Division was in Italy at autumn 1943, but this soldier was killed in Andriewka (Osten) - It is the Russian name Андреевка.

You are correct, I didn't read where he was killed.
Maybe they confused a shield, or maybe the card is a fake... Today everything is possible, even if find this card at a dealer site with a Stalingrad shield togheter offered as a group!

I have the wehrpass that belonged to Johann bretzendofer.
He stated out with 1./San.Ers.Abt.7 (Muchen) 4.10.40 and was killed in action with 6./Gren.Rgt.673 of 376 Inf.Div 22.11.43.
He served with various SAN units and interestingly he was with schlächterei-kompanie.376 8.3.41-20.9.42.
The Stalingrad entry is 17.8.42-18.11.42 Angriffsschlacht Auf Stalingrad.
Hope this is of some interest.
Regards.
P.s this is my first post.

Small world for one guy to have the Sterbebild and another the Wehrpass, very cool!
What is listed on the awards page in his Wehrpass?
My suspicion, and this is really going out on a limb, is that the family assumed there was a shield instituted probably based on words from him in a feldpost letter stating that the idea of a Stalingrad shield was being proposed. They probably assumed later he was awarded it.
I have had all manner of Sterbebilds with strange references to awards and/or units (the one that sticks out the most is the "Sturmabzeichen in Gold").
To put this in perspective - I spent 20 years in the Air Force and during my first few years my parents had no idea what kind of awards I was wearing. In fact, my dad actually thought the Air Force was still part of the Army and he even served in the U.S. Army in the late 50s after moving to the U.S. from Italy. I had to break down for him what the National Security Act of 1947 did to the U.S. Armed Forces. We were good after that.
Back on topic - I think it's a nice card!
Happy New Year!

Hi Bob,,
Happy new year too,
I have seen one other death card to him on eBay but that was quite awhile ago,
Great story about your parents there very interesting, thank you,
There are no awards entered in the Wehrpass so I think you are spot on about the family adding the shield and OST medal.
On a side note while researching his Wehrpass I randomly found a really interesting sterbebild website and found ‘what I think’ is a death card to his younger brother.
Here’s the website and photo of the ‘brothers’ death card.
