According to Janusz Piekalkiewicz's book"operation Citadel", it states on page 120, entry for :Sunday July 4 1943 the DNB reports:Representing Adolph Hitler ,Field marshal von Manstein , presented the Romanian head of state, marshal Antonescu, the golden "krimschild. My question is : has anybody ever seen that shield, or does anybody have an example of a gold krim shield that is authentic. In the years of looking at shields, I have never seen or been aware a golden version existed, and felt the subject should be broached here at some point, (which is now), and if I missed something about it posted in the past, maybe the thread can be posted here, if one on this subject exists. Thanks (although I am not optimistic ,but hope still springs eternal)

Hi Juoneen......
......If somebody actually possesses a golden Crimean shield they aren't advertising it.
If memory alone serves me correctly the only examples of those made and awarded were to Marshall Antonescu and Field Marshall von Manstein.
It is highly unlikely(though not, of course, impossible) that we are ever going to lay eyes on one of them.
But....who knows?

I found one more entry in the same volume on the subject... Page117 "On the morning of the 2 of July 1943,field Marshall von Manstein flew directly from East Prussia to Bucharest. The visit to Bucharest already had been announced on the radio and in the press.Manstein presented the Romanian dictator Antonescu the Golden "Krimschild" (crimean coat of arms) at a ceremony comemorating the anniversary of the capture of Sevastopol and quietly flew back to his headquarters in Cherkasy a few hours later. "
Now...I'm Not sure what the crimean coat of arms is , but this entry I found after finding the other one, and figured it needed entered into the mix . Hope some day we can learn more about the elusive golden Krimschild mentioned in this entry which were by the way all german on that day...(whole book is actual historical entrys)I would assume the shield/shields, was/were likely not just a gold wash, but maybe even a lower karat real gold used to run in the die if it is the same die as the troops had theirs stamped out on....(just extrapolating)my thanks for any and all comments ...Last edited by juoneen; 10-26-2013, 10:33 PM.
