I agree with all above. Does this one have RBN number?

                  Thanks,

That's fine. This is such a nice pristine example, I was curious to see if it might have had one.

                      Very nice indeed.

                        Justin,

No, this CT is of the original pattern version that was issued.

The style with the RBN# has a different pattern to it and I understand those, though original, were never actually awarded. Check some old threads for a comparison.

                          Hello Tim,

I have a "Kreta" CT which has been removed from a tunic with RB number. The ends are still sewn together but you can see the "RBNr0/025" where they have joined the two ends. Sadly the rest of the number has been cut off when sizing the CT to the tunic.

The RB type was issued and used but I do not know if they were the ones awarded.

In fact that raises the question, did they actually award the cuff-titles ?
( or did the recipient just take their award document or soldbuch along to an outlet and buy what they needed ) ?

                          Chris

p.s. is an RB Nr "Kreta" CT any later than the others ? Was it not authorised in 1942 and many awarded in 1943 when the RB Nr's were being used across the board on most items.

                            Chris,

This issue has been discussed in previous threads by others more knowledgeable than I but, I seem to remember that most thought these were period manufactured but no evidence of actually being worn.

You'll have to search old threads for the details. Yours is not the first example of one being sewn to a uniform. Just when that happend though, may be the question.

                              Thanks Tim,

when I looked out my "Kreta" CT's yesterday, I found that I have 2 with an an RB number which have been removed from a tunic. Both still have the ends sewn together.

These came directly from the veterans who brought them back from Italy. One was picked up by a member of 27th NZ Machine Gun in 1945. This came with a Browning pistol still in its holsters, a nice early FJ badge plus some other items. I will go through my notes and check the details of when the other one was picked up and where.

Thus no doubts for me that the were issued and worn before May 1945,

                              Chris
