    CHOLM shield :: Long-M variant

    Hi guys,

    I have two Long-M Cholm shields in my collection, and I have been studding and researching about the Long-M variant constantly, for a long time. From what I have learned I believe that both of my shields are original. Both are identical in terms of construction and details.
    One of my shields can be seen on my website:

    My another shield is in slightly better condition - it still has its original silver finish (pictured below) and all three prongs intact.

    Yesterday, I offered one of my shields (one that is in better condition) for sale on Estand, and received numerous PMs from interested parties. But another member Chris G. asked me to post "the thread that this shield was discussed on". I would really hope that Chris G. could contribute to this thread now and add something new to the "Long-M Cholm" subject in general.

    We all know that Cholm shields are very rare, and not so many known original examples we have to compare with, especially with more rare "Long-M" variant. Luckily, during the years, a few "Long-M" shields were found by collectors in "veterans-bring-backs". Below is a picture of unquestionable original "Long-M" shields from different direct "vets-buys":

                    Now to the details..
                    After comparing many unquestionable-original shields that reside in respected collections, I noticed that all "Long-M" shields have one very interesting deatail - the die flaw on the right wing of the Swaz.

                    On the picture below I combined six "Long-M" Cholm shields.

                    2. original shield that belongs to a member Pitomnik (BTW he is a Cholm shield collector and truly a Cholm-shields expert, he has many of them, including shields that came in complete groupings):

                      As Pascal Huysmans (who BTW is a shield expert too) has already noticed before (in previous "Long-M" discussions) that: "Coming back to ground dug Cholm shield which was found in Breslau, we mustn’t forget that this is a ground dug find and therefore ofcourse will lack detail but even so when looking closely at the Swas you will notice that there is something in exactly the same place as the die flaw". Below is a close-up of the Swaz on the ground-dug Cholm shield found in Breslau:

                        Here is one more "Long-M" shield with the the die flaw on the Swaz. It belongs to "Pitomnik" (Roman I hope you don't mind me posting it here) and came with a complete grouping of German Cholm veteran Willi Sandmann.

                              Regardless of the length - both short and long prongs are made of the same (yellow) metal with a silver finish. Same width and general "look and feel" as well. Please see a comparison below: my shield, Pitomnik's shield (from his another complete grouping of Oblt. Konrad Ehrig) and ground-dug shield, which was found in Europe.
