I have just got this shield.
Nice quality piece but I am a little unsure about the detail of the eagles body and head.
Does anyone have any clear shots of the eagle details?
What does anyone think?

I think the conclusion was that it is a rare and original shield. So nothing to worry about.

Dear Leeb,

Since I made those remarks about that shield you now bought in the thread Pascal posted, I will also show you something which will amaze you.

I made these remarks because I own the very same shield. It is of the rarest original types I know in Demjansk shields.

Apart from the unique design features ion the eagle, etc. other characteristics are:

-the prongs

-the finish ( a thick, silver paint finish over magnetic steel. Most other Demjansk shields are "brüniert" (in lack of the English term, maybe "burnished"), which means that the original metal steel is chemically blackened to varying degrees)

-one of the most respected people in this hobby told me how rare and special this type is.

-check out the remains of the paper backing on our examples, also the very same.

Don´t worry if your eagle´s head or chest has less details. These things happen during production, especially with shields.

Some cookies tend to look sweeter than others but still the same mom baked them!

The banghead from Mark is a private thing between him and me, because we talked about that very shield I posted about a year ago. Nothing to worry about, your shield is ok.

Its on Luft. cloth and compleat with backing paper.
