Need some help with Krim Shield

    Hello,

got this Krim shield in the mail today. A member of this forum asked for some shields authenticy in this thread ( http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=115900 ) and the shield I bought was attributed to Karl Wurster. I would like to know what distincts the Wurster shield from others. The things that I see is the flat and distinct swaztika, and also that the eagles head is mor eto the right than in the middle of the top. Pictorial examples would be nice.

As You can see, no prongs are present and instead 4 holes have been drilled/punched for fastening. The two upper holes have the same patina as the shield, the two lower does not, as seen from the reverse. Do you think that the holes are period or not? Maybe hard to tell.

The shield has lots of glue on the reverse which have developed verdigris beneath it. Should I remove the glue or not? I have some fears that the verdigris will blossom and that the surface will not be the same color as the rest of the reverse when the glue is removed. What would the approx. value of this shield be?

Pictures of the shield are found here:

    Best regards,
    Henrik

    Hello Henrik,
You don't have to worry. You bought a nice original shield.
The reason we can attribute this type of shield to Karl Wurster is in fact quite simple, some of these shields have the makers mark from Karl Wurster. Maybe your does as well but your pictures are too small to be certain.

I will post a picture of the same type of shield which I had in my collection and also a picture of the makers mark so you can check yours.

I would remove the glue and I don't think removing it will do any harm to the reverse.

As for the value I leave that to someone else to answer but I am sure strelets gave you a good price as I bought the fake shields from him for a very friendly price.

        Hello Pascal,

I was waiting for Your reply, this is the second time you've helped me with a shield. I had no worries about the originality thanks to your and the other members earlier opinions. Thanks for the pics, will save them for future reference. Yes, I got a good price on it. Good that the fake shields found a new home, hope they did shed some new light or information.

Any suggestions on what i should use for the glueremoval; Acetone, household gasoline or maybe something else?

Edit: No maker mark on mine, but I see that the shields match good.

        Best regards,
        Henrik
