Sorry for the poor shots but that's all I could manage through the glass.

        Which museum is this Terry?
The Narvik and Demjansk are IMO definitely fake. The Kuban I would need to see a better picture of to be absolutely sure but from this picture I wouldn't like to have this one in my collection.

Hi Pascal. I took the above pictures last week during my visit to the Obersalzberg. I am no specialist in these but thought the Demjansk looked wrong. The old guest house used by Bormann has been "restored" rather badly and turned into an information center with an access to part of the underground system. As I said, these shields were in display cabinets so I stuck the camera to the glass and here they are. Here's a picture of the building last week....

Funny that they couldn't manage to obtain original ones. I was there 2 years ago and I don't remember those shields.

What did these imb.... do with that fine building I can't understand why, museumcurators don't investigate the items they exhibit, or call the proffessionals

                Cheers Thomas

Unfortunately, museums the world over are full of fakes. 99.9% of the fee-paying public don't know the difference, and probably couldn't care less. If they THINK they've seen 'Hitler's hat' or the real Mona Lisa, they go away quite contented.

                    Terry.
                    Thanks for posting this.
I'm going over there next month, so I'll pay that building a visit.
The last time I was at the Obersalzberg, the old Platterhof was still standing and the snow was about 3' deep. It took about 3 hours to climb up to the Kehlstein as the buses were off and the lift was shut for the winter. So I've decided to make it a late summer visit this time. I'm not getting any younger.
It's absolutely my favourite part of the world.

so, that is why they are called 'museum quality copies' then.... Cheers, Torsten.

The Platterhof has all gone. All that's left is the Skyline lodge as it was named for a while. It is being worked on now so I assume they are restoring it. At the base of it the row of arches has been made into small souvenir shops...They knocked the Platterhof down and then built a monstrosity of a hotel on the Goering Hill....I guess people would have paid good money to stay in a room at the Platterhof....
