German cross statistics on the Forum

    Hello,

According to the new book " Das Deutsches Kreuz 1941 - 1945 " , Band II written by K.Patzwall & V.Scherzer there are a total off 26987 awards ( both German Cross gold and Silver )

On the Forum section off this award there is a total of 25318 mentioned ( both Gold and Silver )

Can someone check this please and where needed change this numberings.

    FRiendly Greetings,

The forum only counted all the German Crosses that were offered on ebay and epier.

    Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

On the other hand, Stijn, the German Cross in Silver awarded to Polizei-Generaloberst/SS Oberstgruppenfu"hrer Kurt Daluege as head of the uniformed Police, I understand is NOT included in the new book. I have actually seen both the award document and the Vorschlag for it, among other Daluege items over here.

There are doubtless a number of "odd" awards that never made it into the published Third Reich lists at all, so no "number" can ever be completely authoritative. A handful of the awards normally counted as "army" in fact had nothing whatsoever to do with the army (Reichskommissariat fu"r Seefahrt etc etc), but WERE published in their List.

I would think that it was highly likely that TeNo and similar personnel--especially those serving at the Front-- received awards that were not gazetted at the time. Rick

        Hello Rick, etc...

I agree with you that the exact number off awards will probably never been found ( due to several causes => late war, etc... ) but then again don't you guys think that we should be up to date with the latest info about awards ?

This the net and with this wonderfull tool we should be able to give interested readers more up to date info then for example with books ?

        Friendly Greetings,

I agree that we should strive to have the latest information, and I am working with Fracois on a (very) detailed article on the DK.
