A couple of things I've marked here Alex........
1/ A line in the dot pattern that are joined together
2/ A couple of large dots that really stand out
3/ A small line flaw at the base of the leaves

Compare to these (attached to wartime German Order, also from Deumer).

Thanks Nigel. I will carefully inspect the oak sets for any sign of these marks and let you know what I‘ll find.

Very interesting and three super oaks. Amazing cross too with the silver mark to the right. What a beauty, but that’s for another discussion.

Nigel - Do you think these marks got more visible over time or less visible? Thanks!

Good question Gentry, and with enough study we should be able to find the answer!!!
It seems some of the flaws are already visible on Oaks deemed to be wartime, little appears to have changed in the early postwar years, and indeed the early 57 production period, most changes seem to be in the finish!!

Again thanks to Alex for starting this very intresting thread. Hopefully even more Deumer oaks and oaks with swords will be shown!

There are also other threads on the WAF regarding Deumer sets. In the thread «Deumer Oak Leaves & Swords» (see: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=690418) there is shown a picture of a knights cross with oakleaves and swords from V.E. Bowen’s book “The Prussian and German Iron Cross”. The set, according to Bowen, came to the Imperial War Museum in 1946. The knights cross looks to be a Schickle and the oakleaves with swords looks like a Deumer piece. Bowen describes the oakleaves with swords as follows:

«The oak leaves have a heavily silvered frosted finish to the obverse, with burnished leaf ribs and edges. The reverse, however, presents a level (not slightly concave) appearance with a highly polished finish without silver stamps or makers marks. The swords are of standard construction, ornamented on both obverse and reverse and are soldered to the oak leaves.».

                        He further states that:

«The extremely bright finish are typical of any “one off” exhibition item used not only for medals and badges, but any metal exhibit piece, throughout industry.».

In the thread «835 marked Deumer Oaks» (see: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=886506) there is a picture of a set in the Shropshire Light Infantry Museum. The knights cross again looks to be a Schickle and the oakleaves again looks to be a Deumer piece.

What in my opinion is striking with this set, and the set described by Bowen, is the very bright finish. This type of finish is also very present on some of the sets shown in this thread. Here is a picture of the set in the Shropshire Light Infantry Museum.
