Looking at 1957 High Seas Fleet Badge - Real or Fake?

Hello! I'm happy to have joined this forum because I've heard of the expertise of the people here. I was looking to buy this 1957 High Seas Fleet Badge from an Ebay seller who is known for pin / badge selling for around $40-$50.

    I have two questions:

-Is this a real, authentic 1957 High Seas Fleet badge?

-Is $40-$50 a fair deal for such an item?

    Here are the pics:

Thanks again! I just want to make sure I'm getting the real deal since militaria is easily forged.

Hi, and welcome to the forum!!
To be honest, I am not too keen on this high seas fleet badge.......
It could be a very late S&L made piece (the quality of those isn't great) but the details look soft, like it may be a casting, and the finish applied to the piece don't look to me, to be typical for S&L!!
My advice would be not too buy this one, and instead look for another, preferably earlier piece on which there is no doubt!!!

        Hi,

Welcome to the 57er section of the WAF! I am with Nigel on this badge. Best case it is a very late S&L with some type of artificial wear, worst case......... a cast fake. The detail is not crisp, and I do not like what I see at the 1-2 o'clock position on the inner portion of the badge wreath. I really would like to see an image of this badge "on edge". You will be able to find a better example, in roughly the same price range with a little effort and luck!

        Best,

        Jeff

          Thanks again for responding!

I'll keep looking then since the real WW2-era High Seas Fleet badge is expensive.

Hi, I just saw this get listed, it seems like an early 57' HSF but I am definitely no expert, so will will let the real experts have their say.

I will add a caveat that I have bought some British items off this seller in the past, and have always found him to be a top notch seller with those items.

            Cheers, Tim
