57er Medal Bar with Wartime Bulgarian Award

Hi All,

I recently acquired this nice 57er medal bar from a fine WAF member!

This is my first 57er medal bar and it includes a TR era KVK2 flipped, 57er Ost, and a wartime Bulgarian Bronze Medal of Merit with Crown, King Boris III. The medal is mounted on a wartime ('41-'44) ribbon. I will let the images speak.......

Finally, made it to 500 WAF posts, still a rookie compared to some of you guys!

I remember this bar, and its great to see it again, the bar, and the medals are all super examples, the Bulgarian award is quite scarce on 57 bars!!!

I did have an observation regarding the 57er Ost on this bar. To me it looks different from the S&L produced 57er Ost in my collection. Specifically, the eagles head, the stem, and the helmet. I am posting an 57er S&L Ost for comparison. Is the one on the medal bar possibly a Deumer? All comments appreciated.

Hi,

Very good question and someone with more knowledge of Bulgarian medals will have to answer. What I have learned through research and the assistance of Rudy, the medal is on a wartime ('41-'44) type Bulgarian ribbon. This type of ribbon was used with several different medals, including the one show. Prior to the war it seems this medal was found on a different red colored ribbon. I do not know the actual time period of the manufacture of this particular Bulgarian medal that is on this 57er ribbon bar. The Bulgarian ribbon on this medal bar is UV negative as are the other two ribbons on the bar.

Can you please post some more photo's of the reverse of the bar, so we can see the backing cloth and pin & catch setup!!
There's a chance, the whole bar is wartime made, with the Ost replaced by a 57er, and the KVK flipped??
