Gentlemen, my Womans "Dienstauszeichnung für den Reichsarbeitsdienst 4 Jahre" in Bronze............a thick/heavy nicely finished St u L early strike award...............my first ladies RAD award, but not my last !

Looks like a nice example, don't know if its the light, but the Bronze finish looks a little different to what I am used to seeing, I wonder if this is a slightly later example??
Maybe you could post some side by side pics with your mens Bronze...... Might be easier to compare things then??
The Silver and especially Gold womens versions are VERY hard to find, in fact in earliest form near impossible!!!
Good start to the Women's RAD's, hope you can add the others too!!!

Hi Nigel, here you go.......they appear to be the same thickness.............although the woman's regarding the finish is a tad darker, image taken with flash.

The finish on a piece is always difficult to judge in photo's, different lighting can give a very different "look"
Looks more like a typical S&L Bronze finish in your last photo!!

Nigel, done some comparisons with the men's version, I have come to the conclusion the women's medal is later production, as you suspected, 1968 on ?
Notice in the attached images taken in natural light, both the same height and width but the thickness reduced from 5mm to 3mm and slight loss of detail, all indicative of a later piece...........still a nice example especially at £20 !

Hello,
from my observation the weight of the very early pieces is approximately between 28 and 34g and thickness between 4,1 to 5,1mm.

What are the measurements of your nice example?

Men's medal 5.1mm thick, weighs in at 36g
women's 3.1 mm, weighing in at 27g.

Yes, thinner = later, but not modern made, its still a nice piece!!
