    Silver S&L Pour le Mérite

    Hi guys,

since there currently are a lot of PLM's showing up, I wanted to take a moment and also share my early silver S&L Pour le Mérite. Interestingly this one features a different suspension loop than typical later S&L PLM's. It's marked 938. I'm not sure how early exactly this one really is. I belive no later than the early 1950's. The ribbon is an old one, sewn up in an interesting way.

    Best regards,
    Alex

Superb PLM Alex ! Great to see so many PLM's coming out of the woodwork.....yours is early, and these early ones did indeed sport an oval suspension ring like wartime originals (WW1) when and why did they change to the RK style of loop ?....nice to see the flaw on this early one, we can now start to date these crosses....great news, more the merrier ! I have to get a Silver one now with oval loop !
                  Prost ! Steve.

We have been treated to some super PLM's recently, and this is another!!
Top notch PLM Alex, great early example! I remember Gordon Williamson has an example with this type of loop, and he too thought it to be the earliest, from the early 1950's!!
What is the weight of this one Alex, would be interesting to compare weights with Rudiger's recent 800 example, and Bata's though Bata's is without loop!!
Quality looks great, finishing, gilding, enamelling
As Steve said, it seems the die flaw was there from the start???
Thanks for showing us, best gathering of S&L PLM's I've seen!!!!!!!!
                    Great!!!!

It's marked 938. I've never heard of anything marked 938 ? what is the other marking on the loop as I seem to see two of them ? I must say these PLM's are real beauties ! Tom

Beautiful, text book authentic original early St&L PlM of the "57er" era. Anyone who would say any different would need a check up ftom the neck up! You have a 10/10 right there. I have a bronze gilt version, but would love to add a silver gilt someday. Yours inspires envy.

By the way, can you share with us the width of the neck ribbon?

Heres a closer look at the 938 mark on one of Daniels PLM's shown recently, also with the earlier loop.......
