Uwe, no one mentioned anything about it being a 57 version, in fact no one mentioned "57ers" at all only you!
Andrew, Souval made this style of Para badge, in the postwar years, with swastika, it is different from any wartime design, and, as with many Souval pieces, he then removed the swastika at some point in the production process, and sold them without swastika, so they could be worn publicly, I have seen them in Austrian veterans groupings!
The same has happened here, the swastika has been removed to create something similar to a day badge in effect, something for the vets to wear at a particular re-union or gathering. It would be great if more photo's had been taken at re-unions etc. to see exactly what the vets were wearing!!!

        Hi Uwe!
I am trying to be fair, and I do see your point, it is in the 57 section, and its not a 57er! That is very true, and I cannot argue with that!
But there is nowhere in the forum, where pieces like this really fit, I think we have to include other veteran bought and worn pieces here too, wether they are strictly 57 or not!
If we only stuck to 57, then there would be no Oaks shown here either, I know you probably think that would be a good thing, but we have to be sensible, practical, and also a little flexible, that is being fair I think, as pieces like Oaks are so closely associated with 57 RK's as to be inseperable!
        Just my thoughts!

There is now a poll pinned to the top of the 57 section main page, where you can all have your say as to wether pieces like this belong here or not!
              Please vote!!!!!!!!

I always leave this to Nigel but Uwe has a wealth of information that I respect and enjoy when reading. I would want Uwe to continue to respond to any question in the 57 section. But please Uwe, as you can see, this section does not have a strict policy and Nigel allows some of us to show some pieces that might not belong here. That is one reason why everyone enjoys this particular section and the closeness we all enjoy. I don't understand why people would want to get upset over a hobby. This should be for fun.

                Just a thought.
                Regards,
                Rudy

I want to echo what Rudy has said above. Uwe has been unselfishly helpful to assist me in understanding both wartime and postwar Sport badges (which is an interest of mine) and he is very knowledgeable. While I understand his insistence on using what he feels to be the correct nomenclature for "57er" awards... he has made his point and I think we all understand it. I would like for Uwe to continue to be a part of this forum and for us all to continue to get along as a group. Perhaps we can all agree to disagree and come up with a middle ground?

Personally, I like the discussion of postwar awards alongside the veteran oriented "57er" awards mentioned in the law and company catalogs. Collectors can choose what they wish to collect and like it or not collector terms such as "Butcher Bayonet" for the S98/05 and "Frozen Meat Award" for the Russian Front Award creep into collector language. Heck, collectors still insist on calling the P.08 pistol a "Luger" and there are whole collector forums dedicated to this imprecise nomenclature for this pistol. However... we all know what we mean when we say we picked up a Luger pistol the other day.

                  Just my two-cents.

I think it is not a problem to include the vets topic here, I particularly like the veteran meeting badges, many collectors are looking for them and this is a nice field, lots of badges were made with even 57er motives, let's include them as well, why not?

I think it's the price that's putting buyers off. He has also just listed an EKI 1914 with the 1957 version bar attached, but again it's not exactly cheap.
