    Franz Schmidt Grouping

    Hi guys!!
Some of you may have seen this group which sold on E-bay.de a couple of weeks ago? As usual, all the pieces were sold separately, I bid for and won his medalbar and EK1
Franz Schmidt was an Oberfeldwebel flying Long range reconnaissance missions with 3.Fernaufklarer/31!
The highest award he won was the DKiG which he was awarded 12/04/43!!
Most of his 57ers were sold, including his DK which I believe was a Deumer, I didn't bid on that as Mathijs said he was after it, but I don't know who won it in the end??? There were also some de-Nazified awards that went to different bidders!!
So I will show you what I did get, this is going to be a lengthy thread, so please be patient!!
Heres a first look at the group, and a closer look at the bar & EK1......

When I first saw the medalbar, I wasn't sure wether to bid for it or not, its had a hard life!!!
The bar is his original wartimer, with 3 57ers and 2 de-Nazified originals!
The EK2 ribbon has been off, and crudely sewn back on, the KVK2 has a broken suspension loop, and at one time was glued to the bar!! And the whole bar is discoloured by nicotine staining!!
But, as well as being attributed, there was one rarer variant on there!!
I am really glad I got it, as it is so unique to the vet, and is just how he had it!!

          On to the individual medals!!!
The EK2 is actually an EK1!! A Deumer, with all hardware removed and a hole drilled through the top frame with a suspension loop added........

KVK2 is a wartimer, unmarked, a broken suspension loop means it is loose at the moment, and was once glued to the ribbon! Among the glue is the remains of the broken loop, so it may be possible to fix it eventually......

4 Year Long Service medal, this is the rare one, as I believe this is also a Deumer!! The first I have got, and I will start a separate thread showing the difference between this, and the more common S&L.......

And the last medal on the bar, the Afrika campaign medal! This is a later war zinc made example, but still marked for Lorioli of Milan.........
