    RK Ribbon...Opinions???

    Hi Guys!
You might have seen this roll of RK ribbon...what do you think of it, I haven't seen a roll of 57 period ribbon before!!!
Inside of roll is stamped "Ritterkreuz" "1958" "Steinhauer & Luck, Ludenscheid"

Really cool! Looks legitimate. I am with Tom, I am not sure if I would cut or keep in that condition. As a purist, it would be hard to cut. Just like opening a factory sealed master pack from the Deschler Hoard.....almost. Any idea what something like that is worth? I would think more than the sum of the "cut" parts?

Well. it looks good to me too, which is why I was very surprised to see it didn't sell, with a starting price of 150 Euros, maybe some people thought it was too much? But when, if ever, will you find a roll of genuine, early, S&L RK ribbon???
If it gets relisted, I might go for it!! something different!!!!

This is a hard question. It could help an awful lot of collectors to have access to genuine ribbon for their RKs, but yes, like the sealed boxes of KvKIs we've seen here its a collectible item in itself.

Yes Nigel, I would never let an item like that escape. 150 Euros is nothing compared to it's value IMO. Go for it...Please !! (if it comes up again).

                Hi Nigel,

On one hand I can see the logic to stamp your merchandise and on the other hand I find it an odd position, which is not exactly easy location to stamp, and why do it with year?
Do you have any posibility to see the number of loops on the White stripe. That could give us a clue, if it matches 1958.

                  Hi Karsten!
Sorry, but I know nothing more than what is shown, I haven't even seen any roll of ribbon from the 57 period, genuine or fake!! So I have nothing to compare the markings to!! If the ribbon has the correct white thread count, scalloped edging etc. it at least has a chance of being genuine (though I guess clever fakers can easily match that?) But if it doesn't, then it wont be any good IMO??

Since S&L did not make their own ribbon or cases, who ever their supplier was/is marked the cardboard ring the ribbon was placed on. The reason for a date ???. When I visited S&L in 1988 I purchased a couple RK's. They were waiting for the cases to arrive and were out of stock. I paid and they mailed me the cases later. Another unanswered question I'm afraid. Tom

Damn, have been scouting eBay for nice wines more then 57er recently, missed this one .
I would need a full frontal shot in order to determine if its good "57er style" KC ribbon.

Surely, one could make many collector happy by selling them full size length of KC to fit their cases or KC's.

Question remains, is it original ... I cannot tell from these pictures.
Damn, would definitely be interested in that one though ....

While I guess it would make a lot of collectors very happy if it were cut into lengths and sold off piece by piece, I personally think that would be a real shame, and I would like to see it left as it is!!!
Ive contacted the seller, we'll see what he says!!!!!!!!

Please find out where it came from. I have to say that, even if it is good ribbon, I can't imagine why the roll would have the info stamped on it that it does.
