    RK Silver Mark Opinions

    Hi Guys!
Take a look at this RK please, and let me know your thoughts on the "925" silver mark!!
Its clearly a late S&L piece, with core painted after assembly, and sandblasted frame!
I have seen several "925" marked OLS, double marked like this one on both Oaks and Swords, but can't remember seeing an S&L RK marked with anything other than "800"??
The "925" mark appears to have dented the frame?? Do you think it was added later???????

        Seen others.....

Hi Nigel, I've seen several others marked like this. I don't think it has been added later. I think its another variation of the later RK's by S&L. Have also seen them marked 800 on the reverse bottom arm of course. S&L seems to have been "All" over the place on 925 & 800 silver marks on the later pieces. This cross seems to be of a much higher quality however. I have a set of 925 marked OS that I purchased at the SOS in the mid 90's. I sure would like to pick the brains of S&L to find out the reason for all of this ! Tom

          Thanks Tom!!
          I don't think I have seen a "925" mark before on the RK, I can't remember anyway!!
Oaks yes, I had both OS and OLS marked in this way!
As you said, for a late piece, the quality is not bad at all!!!!!

              Thanks for your thoughts Mathijs!!
If anyone has any pics of similar 925 marked S&L RK's please show them!! It would be good to compare the marks, there is no closeup of the RK mark, though there are of the Oaks marks?? To me, the 9-2-5 look a little widely spaced compared with a normal 800 marking??? Maybe that's just the angle we are looking at???

If you look at the earlier pieces marked "800" ( top and bottom ), the style and font are different then the "925" mark.

Thanks Mathijs! That's what I thought, although I guess that alone wouldn't make this 925 mark a fake, but must cast some doubt on it??

Who knows .... maybe I'm just prejudiced as I really do not like these modern made KC's.

I've seen plenty of these ones on eBay, but never one with a bottom "925" mark.
Plenty with the top ( underneath loop eye ) "800" mark though.

Hi Guy's, Like I said earlier, I have seen these before (last SOS). For several years a dealer from the Netherlands (Jon Winter), has had a few as well as 800 marker top type. I still believe they were marked this way by S&L. Jon purchased a "Ton" of stuff from S&L before they quit production. All his items are Late S&L made, but he has RK's, DK's, Ek's 1 & 2 and so much more it take a lot of time to look through his cases ! IMO they are ok. Tom

I've looked thru some old threads, but haven't yet found any 925 marked RK's, but a couple of interesting threads mentioning the 925 mark in general!!
Interesting to read different views on these, including Gordon Williamson's and Chris Ailsby's!
There seems to be a lot of people who thought 925 marked pieces were made in England, under licence from S&L????
                        Check out these old threads......

Well...I emailed Jon earlier hoping he could shed some info about the 925 marked RK's he has. Just got an answer....all he could say is he purchased about 70 or 80 RK's, but they came from a former S&L employee & not directly by him from S&L. He did say that all of the 925's came from this group purchased in Germany. So.....?????? Tom

So I guess we don't know for sure the full story with the 925 mark, hopefully we can find out, as it would be interesting to know!!!
