Again, the modified Zimmermann design, this time with another setup and the o mark.

Didn´t somebody say the o mark is S&L? Where did that (rumour?) come from?
Could have been me, Frank. I had a 57th mini-chain with one award marked S&L and some others were marked with this o mark. It came from DN and a assume it was one of the scarce real ones.

@Gerd: thanks, that is very interesting, Gerd. If the o mark is indeed Steinhauer & Lück, this also sheds some light on a few wartime badges marked that way. Any more supporters of that theory with more reasons why thi mark could be S&L?
Gerd, would you be able to picture your chain with the marks in this thread, please?

@Rolf: Oh, yes. It was indirectly mentioned in posts #1, #2 and even explicitly addressed in #3.

      Cheers,

      Frank

i also said the "O" mark is from S&L, (on 57's). the "O" mark has a line at the 6 o'clock position dropping strait down. i recived this info from afew other big 57 collectors as well as my research by owning well over 300-400 stick pins. i have quite a few stick pins with these marks and also recived some with S&L cards attached to them, and i think those cards are very rare. as i haven't found anyothers???
i will get some photos posted today so you can see what the marks look like.
also on who made 57's, when it was authorized to be in wear, there were many companys who made 57's, not just S&L.

          hope this helps.

            Hi Greg,

So who are those other companies and have they ALL used the so called Zimmermann design for their 57 PABs? Or is there indeed a possibility to connect S&L with what we called the Zimemrmann design so far?

If you could post any visual proof that connects the o mark to S&L, that would help a lot. It is an interesting thought to follwo with regards to wartime awards also marked that way.
There is also the theory that this o mark could be a simple production related "guide" mark but I have lost my faith in that theory. Why? If you look at wartime o marks they are never in a point of reference (like the middle of something), they are ALWAYS out of centre! How can anything placed deliberately out of center on each badge of different types serve as a guidemark during production? It would make sense if the o mark "says": "here you are in the center of the badge" or "here you are at the position where the pin must be attached in relation to me" etc.
            Cheers, Frank

i get what your saying and good way to think about it. well at this time due to moving my (atleast) 99% of them are locked in a storage company til i buy my home. but when i do get my things out i'll post the cards that came with some 57's from S&L, also i recived from a collector who wrote a book on 57's some stick pins that he recived right from the Vet who submitted his doc's to S&L to recieve his 57's when they were authorized. those ones have the mark's as you said are in the middle of the stick pins. i do also beleave that those marks are for possibly helping the person to center the pin, but i do beleave S&L is the only company who did this and that is where i say these are from S&L only.
the author of the book is named Richard Benson (en)? i have met with him many times and lives in Sac,Cal. he came down with cancer and have not beable to get ahold of him nor family for some time now and have a feeling that things are bad for him. i will continue to try to get ahold of anyone from the family and get more info on makers.
so til then i'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.

See, the problem I have is: how should these o marks help to "center" anything when they are so hopelessly out of center themselves?
