    What 57 badges tell us...

    Dear fellow collectors,

Don´t you think it is remarkable that Steinhauer & Lück, who supposedly made the 57 badges, used what we call a Zimmermann design of the PAB and modified it and NOT what we call a Steinhauer & Lück design PAB? I think we might have some things wrong.

Could S&L be the maker of the so called Zimmermann PABs?

If you don´t think so, why should S&L use and modify a die for the 57 badge other than their own?

      Dear Frank,

I didn't know these 57's are supposed to be made by S&L. For sure there can't be any doubt that this is the so called Zimmermann wreath and panzer design. However its beyond me how they managed to mess up the grass area like they did. If they had the original dies why would they have done that .

In fact I have to admit that I never bothered looking at 57 badges but it's sure worth giving it some more thoughts. Do all 57 PAB's look like this are are there different design to be found in these badges.

So if any of you guys own 57 PAB, please post them in this thread and lets see what we can find out. Could be interesting.

I *heard* these 57ers were made by S&L, I do not have enough knowledge about them to be sure, maybe some 57 collectors can chime in. I also *think* all 57ers have the same obverse, but I could be wrong.

Philippe, the grass area might have been damaged for some reason so they reworked it and smoothened it. Whatever the case was, it does not take away from the fact that what we see is "so-called Zimmermann".
        Cheers, Frank

          Hello Frank ,

I think more than one company made 57ers as i have a EK1 with the L/11 Deumer mark on . As for the PAB,s i have seen the earlier ones are cut out properly from the gun muzzle down to the top of the tank , where later ones like the one Henri is selling are filled in .

          Regards

            Dear Grant,

And do the PABs all look the same designwise, disregarding the cutouts?

Would you know who made the PAB above?
            Cheers, Frank

              Hello Frank ,

Of the PAB,s i,ve seen all are identical except for the cutout . No i had no idea who made them , i assumed S&L and never realised it looked like a zimmerman .

              Regards

              Grant

                Hi Guys,

Just found this one in bronze, perfect match (with the exception of the cut-out under the canon ofcourse) to the one Frank posted.

So , let´s focus on what we have to know for this thread to continue:

-the big and important question is: did only S&L make PABs 1957 style or any other company as well? and:
-is it indeed S&L that made these 1957 PABs?

It is of course known that not only S&L made 1957 awards. But maybe S&L made all war badges?
I also looked around on the net and all 1957 PABs I found seem to conform to the so-called Zimmermann design shown above.
                  Cheers, Frank

Should we start posting all of our '57s and try to reach some kind of consensus?

                          Hi George,

Just took a look at the 57 pin thread you guys just started in the crosses forum

                          http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ad.php?t=64352

The second pin you show (post 3) on a 57 EK directly bought from S&L for sure looks like a perfect match to the one on bugibbians example on the e-stand. So this for gives credit to the S&L lead.
